Charming small table vitrine with beveled glass panels set in a gilt bronze frame, crowned with a tied ribbon-bow and laurel crest and raised on scrolled feet. The interior retains its original rose-pink silk lining.
During the reign of Napoleon III (1852–1870), Parisian society delighted in displaying its treasures, and jewelers and luxury houses produced small glazed vitrines to show off pocket watches, jewels, fans, and miniatures on a dressing table or salon cabinet. The ribbon-bow crest reflects the period's fashionable revival of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette style. To find one with its original silk lining still in place is increasingly rare.
Perfect for displaying a treasured watch, jewelry, a miniature, or small objets on a vanity or bookshelf. The hinge and catch are in working order.
